Public conversation over the next KCPD Chief is already in full swing.
Here’s a glimpse at the illusion of local Democracy given the (blessed) absence of local control . . .
Commissioner Leland Shurin told those at the meeting that the board does not intend to search for a new chief in secret. And he says that the public should be part of the process.
More to the point . . .
THE REAL FIGHT DEVELOPING IS BETWIXT THE URBAN CORE VS. POLICE LEADERS OVER THE NEXT CHIEF!!!
It gets more complicated than that but it’s as good of a place as any to start . . .
Politicos, factions within the KCPD and Missouri leaders want their say as well . . . Moreover, if we want to talk about the “politics” of the decision, let’s not forget about Missouri life in the midst of Republican & Prez Trump hegemony . . .
This time around the decision is not only about Black vs. White but also Red Vs. Blue given the debate over immigration, drug law and gun control enforcement.
In the past few weeks our blog community tells us that SOME police leaders have already endorsed one of the highest ranking local lady cops whilst others have a Hispanic dude in mind. Meanwhile, advocates from the urban core are well within their rights in hoping to continue “community outreach” with an African-American police leader who has connections to the inner-city.
Either way . . . The endless litany of public meetings and neighborhood bull sessions should tire out all but the most committed activists hoping to exert at least a little influence over the next top cop.
